Tata Motors is preparing to bring back one of its most iconic names – the Tata Sierra ICE (Internal Combustion Engine). While the Sierra EV is scheduled to hit the market during the 2025 festive season, the ICE version will arrive in early 2026. Based on recent test sightings, the upcoming Sierra will be offered with three engine options – two petrol units and one diesel – making it a versatile choice in the premium mid-size SUV segment.

Tata Sierra ICE – Engine Options

As confirmed by internal updates and Auto Expo showcases, Tata will equip the Sierra ICE with two new petrol engines and a proven diesel unit.

Engine Type Power Output Torque Transmission Options Expected Placement
1.5L Naturally Aspirated Petrol TBA TBA 6-speed Manual Entry-level variants
1.5L Turbo Petrol (170hp/280Nm est.) 170 hp (expected) 280 Nm (expected) 6-speed Manual, 7-speed DCT Mid-to-top trims
2.0L Turbo Diesel (Safari/Harrier unit) 170 hp (current) 350 Nm 6-speed MT / 6-speed AT Diesel variants

The 1.5L NA petrol will keep pricing competitive, while the 1.5L turbo petrol promises strong performance, likely borrowed from the Harrier and Safari updates expected in late 2025. The 2.0L diesel may be slightly de-tuned to balance fuel efficiency with performance, ensuring Sierra appeals to both city buyers and highway cruisers.

Tata Sierra ICE – Design & Road Presence

At 4.3–4.4 metres long, the Sierra ICE will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara. However, its boxy silhouette, flat nose, rugged bumpers, and upright stance give it a bigger SUV-like presence. Tata seems to be targeting buyers who want a stylish yet commanding road presence.

Tata Sierra ICE – Features & Safety

Inside, the Sierra will carry a triple-screen dashboard – infotainment, digital cluster, and a co-passenger entertainment display. Premium features expected include:

  • Panoramic sunroof

  • Heads-Up Display (HUD)

  • JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos

  • Ventilated and powered front seats

  • Ambient lighting & auto-dimming IRVM

On the safety front, the Sierra will likely offer Level 2 ADAS, multiple airbags, ESP, TPMS, hill assist, and descent control – making it one of the most advanced SUVs in its class.

Expert Verdict

With its range of engine choices, premium cabin, modern tech, and rugged design, the Tata Sierra ICE is shaping up to be a strong contender in the mid-size SUV space. Backed by Tata’s proven reliability and aggressive pricing strategy, it could emerge as a top pick for buyers seeking a stylish yet powerful SUV in 2026.
